Cardio Phlebotomy Technicians perform both blood collection and basic cardiac diagnostic procedures, combining phlebotomy skills with cardiac monitoring.

Cardio-Phlebotomy Technician Certification

The Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) & Certified EKG Technician (CET) credential recognizes technicians who have demonstrated combined knowledge and hands‑on skills in both phlebotomy and basic cardiac diagnostic procedures.

Cardio-Phlebotomy Technicians contribute to patient care by collecting blood specimens and performing EKG testing. They are responsible for preparing patients, operating diagnostic equipment, and following safety and infection prevention protocols.

Certification Requirements:

To obtain the Cardio-Phlebotomy (CPT & CET) certifications, candidates must:

  • Fulfill the hands-on requirements
    • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) Requirements: 30 venipunctures & 10 capillary sticks
    • Certified EKG Technician (CET) Requirements: 10 EKGs
  • Pass the NHA Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) and Certified EKG Technician (CET) exams.

Hands-On Experience (Clinical Sites)

Candidates often complete their clinical requirements at:

  • Hospitals
  • Independent Laboratories
  • Outpatient Practices/Private Practices
  • Cardiology Offices
  • Community Health Centers
  • Urgent Care/Quick Care Centers
