Description
PURPOSE STATEMENT
A Scrub Tech is a professional who assists the surgical team. The Scrub Tech must be able to anticipate the surgeon’s needs during an operation. The Scrub Tech must maintain strict sterile technique and follow current guidelines. The Scrub Tech works under the supervision of the circulating Registered Nurse in the operating room and/or Charge Nurse of the unit. The Scrub Tech must be a patient advocate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Demonstrate the ability to assist the physicians with procedures in the operating room and endoscopy suite.
- Provide correct instrumentation and supplies during the procedure.
- Utilize aseptic technique and ensure a safe environment for the patient.
- Follow hospital policies and procedures.
- Utilize time management skills to facilitate the schedule.
- Routinely attends departmental meetings and hospital forums.
- Routinely participates in department projects to continuously improve the department and/or organization.
- Assist co-workers as needed/requested.
- Completion of mandatory department and hospital education.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Perform other essential duties as assigned.
Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program highly preferred.
- Current certification as a surgical technician preferred. Equivalent work experience as a surgical technician is acceptable in lieu of certification.
- Knowledgeable of various surgical procedures.
- Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment.
- Sterile conscious required.
- Current BLS required.
- Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day.
- Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
- Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
- Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
- Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
- Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to life and/or carry up to 40 lbs.
- Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
